"Do you know what 'desirous' means?"
Tom: Do you know what "desirous" means?
Lisa: Hmm… Is it something like "delicious"? Like, really tasty?
Tom: No, no! It means "strongly wanting something." Like, "He was desirous of becoming rich."
Lisa: Oh! So if I say, "I am desirous of pizza right now," that's correct?
Tom: Well… yes, technically. But nobody says that. You'd just say, "I really want pizza."
Lisa: Then why did we even learn this word?
Tom: Because your English exam is tomorrow.
Lisa: …I am suddenly desirous of a time machine.
Tom:「"desirous"
じゃあ "I am desirous of pizza right now"(今すぐピザを強く望んでいる)って言えば正しいの?」
Lisa:「
Tom:「
A Letter to the Future
Maya sat at her old wooden desk, a blank piece of paper in front of her. She had always been desirous of making a difference in the world, but she never quite knew how to start.
"Maybe I'll write a letter," she thought. "Not to anyone alive — but to the future."
She picked up her pen and began:
"Dear Future,
I am desirous* of a world where children laugh freely, where rivers run clean, and where no one goes to bed hungry.
I do not know if I will see this world myself.
But I believe that every small act of kindness — every seed planted today — will bloom in your time.*
With great hope,
Maya"
She folded the letter carefully and placed it inside an old tin box. Then she walked outside and buried it beneath the oak tree in her garden.
Years later, her granddaughter found the box. She read the letter slowly, tears forming in her eyes.
Then she, too, sat down and picked up a pen — desirous of continuing what her grandmother had started.
